Merced 2020 Project Wraps; Stands as Largest Public-Private Partnership Completed in U.S.

A new chapter began at UC Merced on June 1 with the completion of the massive $1.2 billion Merced 2020 Project, an extensive expansion of the campus’ physical space and capacity.

The project is the largest public-private partnership social infrastructure project completed in U.S. history and will enable the UC’s newest and fastest-growing campus to accommodate up to 10,000 students.

NYT Best-Selling Author Michael Lewis to Speak on Current Markets

New York Times best-selling author Michael Lewis will visit the UC Merced campus for a conversation with interim Chancellor Nathan Brostrom on the future of economic markets.

While some authors achieve the honor of being New York Times best-sellers, not many can say their books have inspired Academy Award-nominated films – thrice. Known to immerse himself in the lives of the people and industries he covers, Lewis counts three best-selling books turned Oscar-worthy films among his accomplishments: “Moneyball,” “The Blind Side” and “The Big Short.”

A Night of Community Art Showcases Principles of Community

Fourteen students, faculty and staff members drew upon their artistic skills to create an array of art pieces to showcase at UC Merced’s Night of Community Art on April 19. The event is the culmination of third-year undergraduate Valerie Moss' Student Success Internship through the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students. Her aim was to find creative ways to spotlight the campus’s community principles.

Former Faculty Member to Read from New Book at UC Merced Author Series

UC Merced is a research institution and while groundbreaking work is done in its labs, that doesn’t mean the arts aren’t thriving, too.

For the past 10 years, the Write! Look! Listen! Series has been a vehicle for the university’s creative writing committee to encourage dialogue among creatives in the community. The series, sponsored by UC Merced’s Karen Merritt Writing Program, features local authors and provides them a place to read excerpts from their latest works to students and community members.
